Caracas, May 23. ABN.- The pretension of denying the importance of people’s integration, by some groups of power that ruled Latin America for years and that have been defeated through votes, “is just to suffer from a historic blindness,” assured the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, in a press conference in joint with his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez, in Quito, Ecuador.
“We (Latin American countries) have a common past and our common destiny is unavoidable. The great majority of the Latin American leaders have fought for this Latin American integration,” Correa emphasized.
He underscored that “some elites and groups of power of Latin America are trying to discredit the integration of governments of the region, Latin American unity, and trying to discredit the historic background of our liberators, in which Simon Bolivar stands out. I think they are going to fail.”
However, he said: “Our people are not fool. We live with the heritage of the truth of these great men that distill their thoughts. Now that we have populist governments, we have a bigger commitment: rescuing the ideals of our liberators and their inspiration to create the big homeland.”
Likewise, President Chavez made emphasis on the necessity of keep building Bolivar’s ideology.
“I am on of those who think, President, comrades, that we can create solid grounds for the socialism of the 21st century with Bolivar’s ideas, Sucre’s, Alfaro’s.”
Moreover, Chavez said that, nowadays, the socialism is the way to look for “the full human existence, release the human spirit,” in turn, he made a call to peoples to raise, rescue and rebuild the true thought: “the Bolivarian ideology.”
